Last chance for summer swim

It’s the last chance for a summer swim this weekend at the outdoor pools in Timaru, Temuka and Geraldine.
The 22/23 summer pool season comes to a close on Sunday 12 March, with the 50m outdoor pool at CBay, and Geraldine and Temuka Pools joining Pleasant Point in being put into hibernation until next spring.
Beth Stewart-Wright, Acting Group Manager Recreational Services thanks all the communities for making great use of their pools over the summer.
“We hope all our communities have enjoyed the pools this summer. This was by no means the perfect season as, like many other pools throughout the country, we struggled to find enough staff to keep things open as long as we would usually,” she said.
“But I’d like to thank the thousands of people who came and brought our district pools to life over past few months for their understanding when we had to change hours at the end of the season.
“We know our communities are really value having a swimming pool in their town, and it’s their support for these facilities that ensures they can remain sustainable and available for the community to enjoy.
“We’ll be working hard all year to attract more lifeguards to join our team so we can hopefully face less disruption next season.
“While sadly the temperature is beginning to drop outside, it’s always summer at CBay and we’ll be welcoming people to Timaru to keep their swimming up so they’re ready for when the district pools open again this coming spring.”
CBay Aquatics will continue its current reduced weekend timetable until the Easter Holidays, where it will return to the usual 7am to 7pm opening from then onwards.
The pools will continue to be open 5.30am – 8pm on weekdays.
