Squads

CBay Aquatics Squads is a comprehensive squad training programme that prepares swimmers for competition at all levels or for those just wanting to maintain fitness. The squad levels focus on maintaining advanced correct technique, whilst giving swimmers the opportunity to grow and develop their own competition skills.

NATIONAL PERFORMANCE SQUAD

NATIONAL PERFORMANCE SQUAD: 6 to 9 x 105/120 minute sessions per week

This is the 3rd level in our competitive squad programme.  These swimmers will be aged 14 years or older. Swimmers at this level are expected to swim a minimum of 6 sessions per week with 9 sessions being offered.  At this stage of the programme swimmers will be competing at National Age Group and Open Level meets.

BRONZE SQUAD

BRONZE: 3 to 5 x 105/120 minute sessions per week

This is the 2nd level in our competitive squad programme.  The target age is 11-14 years who are competing regularly within the Swim Canterbury regional area.  Swimmers are expected to attend a minimum of 4 sessions per week with 8 sessions being offered.  Swimmers in this squad will aim to qualify for the South Island Town & Country and South Island Championship.  It is expected that some of these swimmers will also qualify for National Division ll meet

RISING STAR SQUAD

RISING STARS: 3 to 5 x 60 minute sessions per week

This is our 1st level in our competitive squad programme.  Swimmers are expected to attend a minimum of 3 sessions per week with 5 sessions being offered.  Swimmers in this squad will learn to master the use of the pace clock and continue to learn the technical aspect of the 4 competitive strokes and the skills of advanced starts and turns.

They will learn how to train and develop the different energy systems of the body. There is a small increase in the training load as a swimmer, and these swimmers are expected to be a member of a swimming club and compete at Junior and local meets in the Canterbury region.  A swimmer who attends regular trainings and shows they are a consistent performer at Junior meets will be ready to progress to the next level.

STROKE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

STROKE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD: 2 to 3 x 45 minute sessions per week

Swimmers are expected to attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week with 5 sessions being offered.  In this 45min class swimmers will continue a more structured development of the four competitive strokes and learn the skills in starts and turns.  A swimmer will be ready to progress to the next level when showing a good overall ability in the four competitive strokes.

TEAM FIT SQUAD

TEAM FIT SQUAD : 2 x 60 minute sessions per week.

This programme is for swimmers who do not want to compete in swim competition, but to want to keep up with their swim fitness to assist with triathlons, ocean swimming and fitness for other sports. Swimmers are required to attend a minimum of 2 sessions per week with 3 sessions being offered.
